Full Diagnostic Assessments
Full Diagnostic Assessments for Dyslexia
A full diagnostic assessment is the only way dyslexia can be diagnosed. The assessment starts with us gathering information. We will collect information from school, college, your family or yourself as an adult in order to give us a full picture of the background, history of difficulties and current situation for the individual being assessed.
Following this the assessment can take place. This can take place online via Zoom or in our Scarborough office. Time will be spent getting to know the individual before a series of carefully selected “tests” will be administered. This takes around 2-3 hours depending on the age/needs of the individual, rest breaks etc.
The tests will assess 3 key areas:
- Core skills such as reading, writing and spelling.
- Language, memory and processing skills.
- General cognitive skills, such as problem solving and verbal reasoning.
Information and results will then be used to produce a formal report. This will include the assessment results and will give recommendations for assistance/interventions which would benefit the individual. If dyslexia is diagnosed, the report can be used to support a claim for Disabled Student Allowance if the individual progresses on to university.
